Board Briefs - June 9, 2020

During its regular meeting of June 9, 2020, the Governing Board of the Travis Unified School District...

...held a public hearing and adopted Resolution 2019-20-22, authorizing the District to levy alternative Level 2 developer fees of $5.98 per square foot for new residential construction. This increase is based on the School Facility Needs Analysis Report which also was approved by the Board.

...held a public hearing and adopted the 2020-21 Proposed Budget, which certifies that the District’s financial condition continues to be “Qualified”, meaning that, based on current data and barring certain reductions or revenue enhancements, the district may not meet its financial obligations for subsequent fiscal years. Administration is confident that the District will be able to make necessary changes to maintain an economic uncertainty reserve of three percent and have the necessary cash in order to ensure that the District remains fiscally solvent (presentation can be found here);

...adopted World Language Instructional Materials for Golden West Middle and Vanden High School, including French, German Latin, and Spanish;

...approved the COVID-19 Operations Written Report developed in response to Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-56-20 requirement. We are grateful to our teachers, who kept learning going, our support staff that distributed laptops and iPads so students could access instruction, and our dedicated crew that prepared and handed out meals so that students did not go hungry;

...approved the District’s 2020-21 School Reopening Plans, developed in collaboration with staff, students and families. While we do not yet know what stage will be implemented when instruction resumes on August 13, these plans seek to deliver the most effective instruction possible while protecting the health of our students, our staff, and families;

...unanimously approved one-year extensions to Superintendent Conklin’s and Assistant Superintendent Bothers’ employment agreements, and the initial two-year employment agreement for Assistant Superintendent Human Resources Vince Ruiz. Mr. Ruiz is filling the vacancy left by the retirement of current Asst. Supt. HR Clay McAllester;

...approved the District’s Facility Use Fee Rate Schedule, which had not been updated for more than twelve years. Increases will be effective July 1, 2020, and is due to increased costs to maintain, operate, furnished, and equip TUSD’s facilities and grounds;
