Degrees and Certifications:
PARENTS AND STUDENTS , as we are experiencing very unusual circumstances, I will give you guidance for schooling in my Science course during this time of shelter-at-home for the good of everyone in our community. PLEASE SEE UPDATED MESSAGE BELOW
For the 7th grade Science classes, work through our current Amplify unit (Matter and Energy in Ecosystems) as well as possible. We will revisit this topic upon our return to the physical classroom, but feel free to turn in digitally on Amplify any work you complete. As we are right at the beginning of this Unit, there is much learning available.
For the 8th grade Science class, we were going to be studying next Light and the Electromagnetic Spectrum in our textbook that is not available to you in this particular situation. As an alternative learning experience, and to prepare you for this unit once returning to the physical classroom, this is what I ask you to accomplish:
On paper, spell our ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM vertically down the left column of a sheet of paper. Research as much as you are able to on this subject. For each letter, choose an appropriate word that applies to this subject and then explain it. Here is an example that you may use for the first letter (E): " E is for energy. Electromagnetic radiation carries energy through empty space from our Sun to our planet." Notice I wrote the word underlined and then wrote a sentence to indicate what I learned in my research about electromagnetic radiation and the electromagnetic spectrum. Try your best to include all 22 letters in this subject title!
UPDATED HOME-LEARNING INSTRUCTIONS
Now that it's been almost 20 days since my last communication, I would like to say that I'm proud of you for making the adjustments necessary during this unprecedented time for our class, our school, our community, our state, our nation, our world....... Some of you may even be surprising yourselves with thoughts of "I can't wait to be back a normal school" !
7th Grade Classes:
I can see from my teacher online records that many of you are done, or almost done with the Energy and Matter in Ecosystems Unit. When you are done, would you please email me and let me know what you found the main point of the unit to be. I would be interested in seeing what you have to say from "self-teaching" your way through this Unit. After that, you are welcome to forge ahead into the Natural Selection Unit, keeping in mind that there are some parts that require teacher instruction and materials.... go past those spots.
8th Grade Class:
I have received (thank you!) scanned or photographed copies of your Electromagnetic Research from several of you.... great work! If able, it would be good to see each person's finished product via email. Here are some questions to answer that could be included in your email to me:
1. Why is gamma ray radiation so potentially dangerous to humans?
2. Why does a leaf on a tree appear green to our eyes?
3. Which are the two types of electromagnetic radiation that human senses can respond to?
4. Why does a person living in a very hot climate feel somewhat cooler wearing white clothing rather than black clothing?
5. Where does all this electromagnetic radiation originate from?
