Hello all!

Please refer to the links below for resources regarding the Argumentative Essay, which will be due when school resumes (which should be Monday, March 30th).

The first three links are targeted rubrics based on what individual students feel they should focus on for this essay. Students should choose only one of these rubrics, and continue to refer to that rubric as they write their essay.

Also included is an "Argumentative Essay Framework." This is a "paint-by-numbers" style worksheet that gives students a reference as to how an essay should be structured. As we will not be in class while writing this essay, I wanted to make sure that everyone had the best possible chance to be successful while writing this essay.

  • Students who already tend to score highly on essays do not need to refer to this sheet, and will likely prefer to not use it
  • Students who have a basic idea of how to write their essay may want to use it as a reference, but not necessarily fill it in
  • Students who are not confident in writing an essay and want as much support as possible may want to completely fill out the framework worksheet, then write/type the essay "word for word," which is absolutely permitted for this assignment

It is completely up to each individual student to decide how they would like to utilize the worksheet.

Essays should ideally be typed using Word Online via Launchpad and Office365; however, if a student does not have access to a reliable computer during the two weeks away from school, handwritten essays will be accepted.

If you need to refer to the SIRS Issues Researcher site to do additional research, the site can be accessed here: That site also includes the log-in information to access the site from home.

If you have any further questions about the essay, please feel free to email questions to myself at or to Ms. Chavez at

Stay safe and I hope to see everyone back at school very soon!
