Substitute

For those who do not hold a California teaching credential or an Emergency 30- Day Substitute Teaching Permit, our office can assist individuals in applying for the permit with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Official transcripts which include posted degree and proof of meeting Basic Skills Requirements are required. Applying directly to the CTC for an initially permit may take longer for the permit to be issues (renewals must be completed online directly through the CTC).

Minimum Qualifications for the Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Electronic transcripts are accepted if emailed by the university directly to echavez@travisusd.org; otherwise a hardcopy will be needed
  • Foreign transcripts evaluations must be original, from a Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved agency  
  • Copies, PDFs, unofficial transcripts, diplomas, etc. are not acceptable
• Basic Skills Requirement 
  • Copy of CBEST passing status or official score report for other CTC approved basic skills exam
• Fingerprint Clearance through the CTC
  • Applicants holding a CTC Certificate of Clearance are exempt.
  • All others needed to be fingerprinted (use this live scan application form).

1. Create an educator/user account with CTC.
    
2. Drop off the following items in a sealed envelope to District Office Secretary, Elizabeth Chavez or via email.
   • Copy of CBEST/SAT/ACT or other approved basic skill exam
   • Official Transcripts
      
3. Notes
   • Please allow 10 business days from the time you drop off your materials for processing.
   • You will receive an email from CTC when you have been recommended for the permit. (Occasionally, the email generated from CTC may go to your spam folder, so please also check there.)
