Welcome to Our English Language Development (ELD) Program

At Travis Unified School District, we are committed to ensuring every student has the tools they need to succeed academically and socially, including English learners. Our English Language Development (ELD) program is designed to support students who are learning English as a part of their language profile in grades K-12.

Who Qualifies for ELD Services?
Students qualify for ELD services if their primary language is not English or American Sign Language (ASL) and they demonstrate the need for additional language support, as determined through the State Initial English Language Proficiency Assessment for California  (CA Ed Code Section 313). Our goal is to help students develop the English language skills they need to fully engage in the classroom and beyond.

How We Support English Learners

  • Elementary School (K-6):
In the early grades, students receive targeted language instruction integrated into their daily schedule. Teachers use engaging, research-based strategies to build listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English while fostering confidence and participation.

  • Middle and High School (7-12):
As students progress, they receive more targeted support through dedicated ELD courses. These are designed to enhance academic language skills, preparing students for success in content areas like math, science, and social studies. Our team works collaboratively to ensure English learners have access to rigorous curriculum and enrichment opportunities.

We also offer translation services, family workshops, and other resources to support parents in partnering with us on their child’s journey toward English proficiency.

Our Commitment
We believe multilingualism is a strength, and we are proud to support our English learners in reaching their full potential. If you have questions about our ELD program or how we can support your child, please contact your school principal.

We look forward to working together to support your child’s success!
