Measure R Information
On behalf of the Travis Unified School District and Governing Board, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the community for your support and tremendous efforts for the successful passage of Measure R, a $65 million dollar school improvement bond. This funding provides an opportunity for TUSD to make necessary repairs and upgrades at our schools and ensure that our schools continue to provide safe and modern learning environments for our students.
As a next step, the District and Governing Board will begin moving forward with establishing a Bond Oversight Committee to ensure accountability and oversee the use of bond revenues accordingly, as outlined in the bond. For anyone with an interest in participating on the committee, please contact Christa Tindall, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, at ctindall@travisusd.org.
Upon formation of the committee, we will continue to keep the community informed through regular public updates, community messages and site specific communications. We will also be updating our website with our project progress.
We are very grateful for the collaborative effort of volunteers, including community members and staff, who worked incredibly hard to communicate the importance and significance of Measure R for our schools. We take this responsibility to our students and community seriously, and we will continue to move forward using a thorough and thoughtful approach, with transparency and communication at the forefront of our efforts.

Additional Information About Measure R
Repairing Our Aging Schools and Classrooms
Providing safe, secure, and up-to-date classrooms are key to supporting a high-quality education. However, many TUSD schools are over 50 years old and in need of repairs and updates. Our classrooms were built for a different era of education and no longer meet today’s educational standards. That is why TUSD hired Kitchell, a well-respected school facility firm, to help us assess our full needs at each school site and provide a facility needs assessment for our schools. In addition, we reached out to our community in a collaborative effort to hear what repairs and improvements are important to you.
Measure R: Local Funding to Repair and Upgrade Our Schools
To continue meeting the needs of our students and community, the TUSD Governing Board voted to
place Measure R, a $65 million dollar school improvement bond on the November 2024 ballot. The measure’s cost is limited to $60 per $100,000 of a property’s assessed (not market) value per year while bonds are outstanding.
- Replace aging plumbing, electrical, lighting, heating and air conditioning systems
- Enhance safety and security at all schools including security fencing, cameras, and lighting
- Repair, modernize and add classrooms for science, technology, engineering, math and career technical education
- Replace damaged floors, old doors and leaking windows
Mandatory Fiscal Accountability and Local Control
By law, the bond measure would require accountability protections, including:
- All funds would be controlled locally for our schools only and could not be taken away by the State
- An independent citizens’ oversight committee and mandatory annual audits would ensure all funds are spent as voters intended
- A detailed project list outlining the specific use of funds would be required
- No funds could be used for administrators’ salaries
If Measure R passes, the District has approved a resolution committed to cease taxation of and start dissolving the local Mello Roos Districts.
