After a full year of listening, learning and researching, we are ready to hear from our Board on the path forward for our future 6th graders at the May 14th Board meeting. We have been investigating the possibility of moving future 6th grade classes to the Golden West campus, beginning no sooner than the 2025-26 school year.
We are committed to a thoughtful, well-planned process that is grounded in family, student and staff input, and we thank you for your engagement and interest throughout this process.
Here’s a snapshot of how we gathered community, student and staff feedback:
- Parent meetings: 15
- Staff meetings: 14
- Students participating in focus groups: 527
- Survey responses: 4,525
- TUSD Board presentations: 4
Through these discussions, three main areas of focus were identified: program development, facility upgrades, and staffing adjustments. The Board has heard presentations on program and facilities and will hear about our staffing adjustments on Tuesday, May 14th.
Our community has had a clear message, we want students to have access to specialized electives and extracurricular activities, and we want them to remain in a smaller, age-alike group as much as possible. Concerns about safety and creating a positive, welcoming community were key to our families and staff. These were driving forces in narrowing down the options for programs, design for facilities and our staffing recommendations. If the Board acts to move forward with reorganization, we will begin the formal planning phase with our teachers and staff immediately.
Stay tuned to the TUSD website and principals’ newsletters for updates and next steps!
