California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)The signing of Assembly Bill (AB) 484, on October 2, 2013, established the CAASPP assessment system, which replaces the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. The primary purpose of the CAASPP system is to assist teachers, administrators, and pupils and their parents by promoting high-quality teaching and learning through the use of a variety of assessment approaches and item types.The provisions of AB 484 took effect on January 1, 2014. However, the transition to this new system of assessments and assessment tools will take several years to complete.The California assessments that comprised the 2015 administration were a mix of computer-based and paper-based assessments. Travis USD testing included:
- Grade-level science assessments in grades 5, 8 and 10;
- California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) for science in grades 5, 8 and 10;
- Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) summative assessments for ELA and mathematics in grades 3 - 8 and 11 (includes EAP for grade11);
- California Alternate Assessment (CAA) Field Test in grades 3 - 8 and 11.
