Districts were offered a choice between using a state reflection tool or a locally selected measure or tool. We used a rubric simplified from a tool created by the Butte County Office of Education. Teachers rated their progress on implementing state academic standards on a five point scale, from the exploration and research phase to full implmentation.
Our teachers identified five areas where we are at full implementation: English Language Arts, English Language Development, Mathematics, high school Science, and high school Social Studies. There are three areas where ratings of implementation are rising, but not yet at a 4 or above: elementary Social Studies, elementary Science, and high school Science. This year, high school science teachers and elementary teachers are implementing lessons developed to align with the Next Generation Science Standards.
